Herbal Tame-3rd Times a Charm

photo courtesy of GoldMedalHair.com I decided to use my last packet of Power Gro Herbal Tame over the weekend. This time, I did not have the conditioner they suggest you use because I used it during my second attempt , so I just added warm water and Africa's Best Ultimate Herbal Oil. Maybe I should have used apple cider vinegar (ACV) instead? Adding ACV to henna is supposed to help with clarifying and acidity, so that the product takes better to the hair shaft. Maybe next time!! I applied little scoops of the mixture to my 2 week old, freshly washed twists, this used less than 1/4 of the mix. Since I had so much left over, I have decided to do it weekly to see if my hair becomes more manageable when it's "out". I then washed out the mix, conditioned, applied Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk leave-in, sealed with my shea butter and followed with ECO Styler clear gel. Homemade Whipped Shea

1/2 c shea butter 1/4 c cocoa butter 1/3 c oils 2 tbs aloe vera gel 1 tbs glycerin 10 drops essential oils 10 drops tea tree oil (preservative) Hand mixer  1.Soften butters by putting them in the microwave for a few seconds. You do not want them to be totally liquid, just soft enough so you can blend them well. Mix for 15-20 minutes, so that its fluffy. If it becomes too liquid, just put the mixture in the freezer for 5 minutes and alternate mixing and freezing until you have mixed for a total of 15-20 minutes. 2. Add the aloe vera gel and glycerin, mix for 5 minutes. 3. Last but not least, add the essential oil of your choice and your preservative. Mix for another 5 minutes. The preservative may be optional, but it is important if you will be using with wet hands. Transferring water to your butter when styling wet hair may cause mold to grow. This is my finished product. Cheap alternative for a steam treatment

Instead of rushing out to give Sally's Beauty Supply more of your hard earned cash try the steps below first. Great results can be achieved just as easily with a couple of handy household items and if you already own a hooded dryer , a steam treatment is well within your reach without breaking the bank!  What you will need: A bowl full of hot water (not boiling) 2 plastic caps or plastic bags 0  A hooded/bonnet dryer Prepare your hair first by washing and applying the conditioner or hair treatment. Ultra Moisturizing Conditioner 1/4 cup 100% vegetable glycerin 3/4 cup organic aloe vera juice Cantu Shea Butter leave-in or EV Coconut oil Mix the two liquids together, add the leave-in or coconut oil, mix well. Apply to clean, deep conditioned, detangled hair. Put on a shower cap and leave in for 1 hour or more then rinse. Store remainder in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
